It has come to my attention that there are people who don't know very much about the town in which this rp is set, so i'm going to try and make things clear here. if there are any more questions when i'm done, feel free to ask them.
What is the Town of the Dead?
The Town of the Dead is a town (hah) set in the South East of the United Kingdom, because of a spell cast during a war 125 years ago (see later) it is perpetually in darkness, making it a home for Vampires and Werewolves but also a sizable number of Humans.
The town was originally called 'Edgehaven' but for obvious reasons, many people know it only as the Town of the Dead.
Vampires?
Yup, simmilar to the movies, Vampires live in this town, most of them live peacefully, raising families (yes Vampires can have children) and going out to work as if they were Human, getting their daily blood from blood banks and just generally existing. There are, of course, the darker edges of this society, the vampires of fiction that stalk humans and start bar fights but they don't tend to live long.
Their society tends to be rigidly heirarchical, with the fifteen old blood clans ruling between them in an almost perfect balance of power.
They tend to have up to two times the strength (pound for pound) of a human being and tend to have fast reflexes and a natural talent for acrobatics.
Becoming a Vampire
as with clasical literature; If you are bitten by a Vampire, you become one yourself, the transformation process tends to take between four and six hours, usually spent in a coma due to the natural anaesthetic contained in a vampire bite. Upon waking, the victim is usually a fully fledged vampire, hungry for blood. However if an Anti-serum can be administered before the victim tastes their first blood, the transformation will wear off within a day.
It is also possible for a vampire to be born from fully vampire parents.
Okay, so how do I kill one?
Wooden Stakes, UV radiation (the reason vampires are allergic to sunlight), Beheading is also successful.
what about silver?
NO!
Crucifixes and Holy Water?
nu-uh, there are just as many (if not more) Vampires that go to church than Humans
Garlic?
Won't kill them, but it'll hurt them and perhaps distract them for long enough for you to escape
Okay, so what about Werewolves?
Werewolves (or Lycans) were the last of the three main species to inhabit the town, having come down from their native woodlands to seek better hunting grounds. Some are forced to change by moonlight (mainly those who were turned rather than born a Lycan, though it possible for them to learn the neccessary control) while others (mainly those born into lycanhood) can control it (some to the extent that moonlight just doesn't bother them).
like Vampires, most of them tend to live peaceful lives in the town, the only real problems coming at full moon or when a Lycan that is unable to control its shifting becomes drunk or angry (or both).
Even Out of their Wolf form, Lycans are massively strong, generally being 2 to 3 times as strong as a human, pound for pound. They also tend to have very fast reflexes.
tell me about this wolf form...
well, it's like in the movies, when the Lycan changes form, they go through an intensive and painful process. once in their animal form, their human mind gradually fades to the backgrounds and their instincts begin to take over, their human mind can yell instructions to their wolf mind but generally the wolf mind is not smart enough to understand what is being asked of it, so it just does whatever instinct tells it (There are a few lycans that are able to hold control over their lycan mind for a long time while changed, though this is rare).
While in wolf form, the lycan can only percieve the world itself in black and white but this world is overlayed with a vibrant multicoloured symphony of scents. Seeing this for the first time can be very traumatising, so it is common for the first few changes of a new Lycan's life to be 100% controlled by the wolf mind rather than the human one.
Becoming a werewolf
Just as with clasical literature, if you are bitten by a werewolf, you become one, this effect usually takes about an hour, usually the victim doesn't know that they are transforming. However it is possible to reverse this transformation provided the victim is provided with the antidote to the lupine plague (the super virus that causes the werewolf effect) before their first full moon (so anyone bitten on a full moon is doomed)
Okay, so how do i kill one?
Silver is your main friend (It is for Lycans, not Vampires) and fire is also useful, if the Lycan in question is in its wolf form.
What about Demons?
Demons are (for want of a better description) hell-spawn. They came to our reality from hell during the great war (see later) and many of them escaped from the battlefields because they liked our dimension so much.
because of this they are not common, they are infact the rarest species in the Town of the Dead (barring half breeds) and they are generally always living in fear because of the destruction and devastation that the armies of hell caused during the aforementioned war.
Like Vampires and Werewolves, Demons are Immortal (in that they cannot die from the passage of time) and unless they were actually born in this dimension, they are ageless (due to the fact that the passage of Time in Hell doesn't actually translate to that of earth)
Demons tend to have a large variety of innate abilities and no two are the same, they do, however tend to be stronger than even a Lycan and have faster reactions - this is a generalisation, so yeah... not all of them are like this.
Is it possible to become a Demon?
Yes, it is called Ascension, basically when a person (Vampire/Werewolf or human) has done a particularly large amount of evil in their life, or the person in question has been marked by the Devil from birth, they will ascend after death.
And how do I kill one?
this all depends on the Demon though blessed weapons and holy water tend to be a pretty good bet for at least slowing them down.
Okay, so about this War...?
The War began 125 years ago when Rino (the then president of Hell) rebelled against his lord and master (yeah... the Devil) and - with the help of cultists on Earth - found a way to exit through the (normally one way) hell gate in order to make his own Hell on Earth, within a few hours he had captured the Town of The Dead (conveniently the hell gate he managed to escape through was situated in the Eastern Quadrant of the town), within two days, Rino's new domain had a radius of ten miles and was continuing to expand. Finally by the third day of Rino's incursion, the armies of Vampire, Lycan and Human started to engage his demons and thanks to their knowledge of the terrain and their local support, they managed to push the Demonic invaders back to the city limits within a day of brutal, bloody fighting. The war from then on would continue for another month before Rino was finally trapped in his sword, which was then buried.
Okay, so what about the darkness?
the perpetual darkness that encompasses the town itself was the result of a spell that was cast on the third day of the war to allow the Vampiric armies to fight at all hours (because of their allergy to UV radiation). It is unknown as to how long this spell will last.
What is the Circle?
The Circle is the town's senior police force, they tend to deal with threats to the town's safety and balance of power. They have the most power of any law enforcement agency in the town, able to do pretty much anything provided it can be justified. The Circle is currently commanded by Austin Darkora - himself a veteran of the Great War. They have a shiny (though battle-scarred) headquarters in the town's southern quadrant.
How is the Town Ruled?
the town itself is ruled by a council of thirteen members - four Humans, four Vampires, four Lycans and a chairman - the holder of this seat being a representative from one of the three species, ownership of this position changes every five years on a rota, though the actual person to take the seat is chosen internally by the species whose turn it is (it is not uncommon for a vampire count or great wolf to have had twenty terms as chairman)
Relationships
Okay, Vampires and Werewolves have had a blood feud for as long as any of them can remember, though none of them can exactly remember why. In the last thousand years there have been countless wars between the two sides, though since the great war these have all but stopped.
While the wars have stopped, the animosity is still there - it doesn't take much for a bar fight to start between vampires and werewolves and in extreme cases they find it difficult to be in the same room without attacking each other.
For some this feud merely manifests as an instant recognition of Vampires/Werewolves and even for those with more violent symptoms, this is the case anyway - somehow over the centuries they have developed a sixth sense over each other's location.
Vampires and Humans, historically do not have a good relationship, Pure Blood Vampires tend to see Humans as cattle - useful for nothing more than food, which many Humans see Vampires as uncontrollable monsters. Over the last 100 years, friendships between Humans and Vampires have increased.
Lycans and Humans, can get along (provided there is no full moon) as historically they had a common enemy. Alliances between the two have been common through the ages and it didn't take much for Human and Lycan forces to ally at the start of the Great War.
If you have any other questions, ask here, i'll answer them and add it to here
