The Assassins' Guild (The world's second oldest profession)
The Guild is the Town's oldest educational establishment, it is the architypal public school, teaching the normal subjects (Literature, Mathematics etc) but also subjects like Assassination, Espionage and Diplomacy (though admittedly the line between the latter two is blurred)
Note that it is not required for a graduate of the Assassins' guild to have undertaken any training in the arts of assassination.
Originally offering only Assassination via Poison and Assassination via Dagger, the guild's scope has broadened over the years and it now includes Assassination via Firearms (close order) and Assassination via Firearms (Ranged) along with various other methods.
The Assassins' guild - being a Guild of Assassins, hire their services out at varying prices depending upon the wealth of the client, the strength of their bodyguard and their political importance.
Students hailing from rich families are not required to undertake contracts - as their training fees are usually covered by their family, however students from poorer families, taken in as scholarship students have to repay their tuition fees via contracts. Until their debt is paid, the guild takes 100% of the contract purse, after that the guild only takes 40%.
The Guild has a strict code of conduct and breaking it can be grounds for dismissal... a severe breech is grounds for the dismissed party to have a contract placed upon their own head.
The Code is as follows:
Assassins are occasionally seconded to military units during large conflicts - notably this was commonplace during the Demon War as an assassin increased the unit's survivability vastly. They were commonly deployed as kill teams, targeting senior demons and allowing the allied forces to mop up.

The Guild has a strict code of conduct and breaking it can be grounds for dismissal... a severe breech is grounds for the dismissed party to have a contract placed upon their own head.
The Code is as follows:
- It is considered absolutely unforgivable for an Assassin to kill for any reason other than being paid to do so.
- Furthermore, it is forbidden for an Assassin to disclose the source of any contract they are party to.
- Legally, an Assassin must leave a receipt after a the successful removal of a target.
- It is considered polite for an Assassin to give their target a sporting chance (This was a requirement of the code, but over the years it has been relaxed)
- Furthermore, it is considered impolite for an assassin to kill anyone incapable of defending themself (Anyone rich enough to afford bodyguards is considered capable)
- It was formerly forbidden to make use of firearms to dispense of a target. (this has since been relaxed to the point of nonexistence)
- It is considered improper to carry out an Assassination in the street, it is preferred to complete the mission in the privacy of the target's home or place of business.
- It is accepted that an Assassin may find it necessary to inhume third parties, including Bodyguards or other Assassins, while on a commission.
- However, if these can be incapacitated without being killed, it is considered good manners to do so.
- In very rare cases, usually of personal offence, the head of the Assassins' Guild may stretch some (or all) of those rules, if only to make a statement.
