Kunoichi facepalmed, cursing softly to herself and closing her eyes.
"I don't think you've quite got the hang of what we're asking for..."

Adrienne's sides hurt from holding in the laughter, her eyes were resolutely fixed on the ceiling at first then she looked at Kunoichi.
"Ah, maybe we should alter the example a bit.." She said delicately.

Damaris bit her lip and tried not to laugh. She'd actually thought her example might have worked. She made her mind not to interfere again and let the other two women get on with it.
She leant back against the wall and adjusted her hair, watching to see what would happen next.

Cindy felt like she'd done something stupid, but she had no idea what.
"Um, what is it? I thought we were just doing a little roleplaying... You know, it's an excellent warm up exercise. Why, in our old drama class when I was at school we'd always warm up this way!" She didn't really have to say it, you could just tell Cindy was the type of person to do drama at the inevitably really posh school she'd gone to...

Adrienne tilted her head.
"Cindy, try imagining the pad as some other woman telling you off about your main traits, the things you take pride in above all else." She said delicately still, testing the waters a little on what she knew. "It's using all sorts of names, not nice ones either and it's being very very insulting and rude to you." She caught Kunoichi's eyes and mouthed the words brace yourself.
"Focus on the pad, imagine it's in the center of a grayed out circle, it's the only thing you can see. I know you can. Don't worry about us just focus on the pad." Her voice had become soft, almost soothing, her eyes resting on Cindy's face, her eyes were soft gray, her normal colour but a calm one. Ready to support and comfort afterwards if necessary. She knew that example was painful but it had taken that one to fire her anger thoroughly enough to get several punches out of.
"I know you can."

Slowly, ever so slowly, cogs began to turn in Cindy's brain. It seemed like they wanted her to do something other than 'roleplay' and shout at the pad. It was like they...
"...You want me to hit it?" She finally realised, having thought that Adrienne's demonstration was just for her own sake. "B-b-but, I don't know the first thing about that! I don't want to hit something! I bet it'd hurt my hand and-" She stopped herself before saying 'I might break a nail'. That was too much of a cliche even for her.
"You could have just said." She settled for, sulkily, instead.

Adrienne successfully resisted the urge to facepalm... Almost.
"Ai ya.." She muttered, seriously tempted to call Austin and ask him for help and examples.
And I thought this was going to be easy... HA! Really smart move Ara... Underestimate the nature of training just 'cause you lived through it... Adrienne wondered if she'd be sane by the time this was all over and this was just the first lesson. She also wondered if all teachers and warriors felt this way about all training and first lessons. And if crying would look professional by now.
I'm either too young or waay too old for this job, knowing my luck there'll be gray hairs there by the second lesson if there aren't already...

Kunoichi smiled gently and leant her shoulder into the pad
"It doesn't matter how good you are, ball your fist up like this..."
releasing the grip from one hand she showed Cindy
"making sure your thumb is on the outside"
she retained her grip on the pad
"and just put as much strength as you can into hitting the pad"

"Okay. Right." Cindy made an experimental ball with her fist. She could do this. Couldn't be too difficult, right?
Okay. Deep breath. Hard as she could.
She shut her eyes tightly, scrunched up her hand, and swung...
...unfortuntely, having her eyes shut, never having thrown a punch before, and having no hand to eye co-ordination meant she totally missed the pad, swung around herself, and landed on the floor.
"....Nobody say anything." She grumbled to herself, getting back up.

Kunoichi coughed back a laugh
"Okay, rookie error there, keep your eyes on the target. Your goal is to hit the pad - concentrate on that. It doesn't matter as much how much power you put into the strike if you're accurate, power can be worked on."
she said in what she hoped was an encouraging manner

Cindy took a deep breath. Okay. Focus on the pad. She could do that. Focus on the pad and just...hit...it. How hard could it be?
She took another deep breath, and tried to clench her fist like Kunoichi had showed her. It didn't feel very comfortable, but then again, her hands didn't feel right without her jewellery on anyway. She gulped nervously, looking at her perfect red nails, and worrying about what effect this might have on them...
She extended her arm as hard as she could with an exceptionally girly yelp. She hit the pad, although she might as well not have bothered. It didn't even make a sound, contact had been so weak.
And despite the fact Cindy had just hit with power that would put a six year old girl to shame, she still let out a cry and pulled her hand back.
"Owwwwwww!" She whined, holding on to it. "That really hurt!" She sulked, apparently not having been ready for, or having felt, something like that before.
It was clear that this was going to be a lot of work...

Adrienne smiled encouragingly at Cindy and kept her expression innocent.
"Kunoichi I'm going to buy you a very large drink or whatever you wish next time we're out on leave. Thank you!" She muttered out of the corner of her mouth, knowing Kunoichi would probably hear her, she was starting to figure out she wasn't the best teacher still.
She drew her sword and began to slowly practice the movements she'd been practicing earlier, one eye on Cindy and making sure she was in an empty spot in the room and away from Damaris and the others so she wouldn't make them uncomfortable.

Damaris watched quietly from where she sat as Cindy struggled with the idea of actually hitting the punch pad, and mentally applauded when she did, offering her an encouraging smile.
She watched Adrienne with interest as she started practicing with her sword. That's not a bad idea She thought to herself. She hadn't used her sword much since she lost it during the fight with Carla, maybe it would be a good time to get some practice in.
"Mind if I join in with you?" She asked Adrienne quietly, not wanting to interupt Cindy and Kunoichi.

"Okay, that wasn't great, I'm not going to give you any false pretences, but it's a start"
she smiled and put the pad down before taking a step back
"I'll have to start you from the beginning I guess"
she stepped back so her feet were level but slightly turned in, bending her knees a fraction with her arms out in front of her - her hands balled loosely into fists
"Copy me exactly"
she said, closing her eyes and drawing her left hand back to her side - turning it as she did so so it was now the opposite way up to the hand she had out front.
"okay, now you're going to push your left hand out and turn it while you bring your right hand back - slow for now and we can build it up into a proper punch"

Adrienne smiled at Damaris.
"I don't mind at all." She replied softly and moved aside so Damaris had room to move.
"Do you wish me to let you take over the next part of the lesson Kunoichi? Or should I stay out of the way for now?" She asked courteously. She sent another encouraging smile to Cindy to let her know she was doing well.
