Eliza's face fell as she saw the ambulances, and even Eliza's sunny disposition and naivety couldn't survive horror this obvious. She pulled the car over and only didn't turn pale at the sight of the bodies because her skin was sheet white anyway.
She tried to will herself out of the car and only succeeded on the fourth attempt. It would have been the third, but in her shock, she'd forgotten to take her seat belt off. "C-c'mon... We've gotta, like, help..." Eliza stammered, even the horror failing to penetrate her naive good nature.
She ran towards the scene in that classic girly girl way that involved putting maximum effort in to flailing arms, wiggling hips and clacking high heels that actually resulted in her moving hardly faster than a walk at all, but at least she was trying.
She had, of course, forgotten her nightstick...

Eleri pulled Hadrian to her, resting his head on her shoulder. "I know, sweetie, I know." She did know, too. She'd heard the girl crying while she'd been 'tuned in' to Hadrian. She'd also heard her stop. She swallowed, hard. She looked up and towards the building again. What she really wanted to happen now was for Wright to come back and tell them to let the paramedics handle the rest so she could get Hadrian back to the station and away from that basement. She turned her head as a red-headed girl came running towards them. How she could run that fast without falling over in the ridiculous heels she was wearing was a mystery. Without letting go of Hadrian, she called to her. "Who the hell are you and what do you think you're doing? This is a closed area. Police and medics only." It was then that she noticed the police uniform the girl was wearing. Oh no, he didn't.... She mentally face-palmed. When this was over, she was going to have Serious Words with Captain Wright. <edited to get Eliza in too >

He turned his face into the shoulder of her uniform, beginning to shake as he finally broke down, the very thin tenuous thread that prevented him from bursting into tears snapping until it was all he could do to keep his mouth shut and not make a sound like a dying animal as he clung to the Dhampire.
He forced himself to pull it together when he heard Eleri snapping at someone, she was right, they were in the middle of a crime scene, and he couldn't afford to fall to pieces now. He was their egg head and once the paramedics had finished down there.... he would have to go back and collect evidence, track down anyone connected with this place and help them go behind bars for the rest of their natural lives.

It took Tori longer to recover from the shock of the scene than it had Eliza, and by the time she hauled herself out of the ridiculous car, Eliza had already taken off. "Eliza, get back here!" She yelled, pelting after her. It didn't take long for Tori to catch up, considering that she was wearing considerably more sensible footwear. When she did, she grabbed hold of Eliza's arm and tried to steer her away from the main site and towards the woman in the police uniform who was yelling at them from the chair.
"Sorry, ma'am," she called over. "Uh... we're police too. We're..." she hesitated, not wanting to admit this to the stern-faced woman, "we're the new recruits."

Wright walked out of the basement in a sullen silence. Yes, he'd seen worse, but that didn't make it any easier. And most of those times, he had the luxury of being drunk to get through it. He didn't have to care. He didn't have to care about his broken officers, either.
He wanted to tell them they could stand down. Get back to the Yard. Maybe even get some rest, not that Wright would phrase it that way. But no. He needed security. He couldn't leave paramedics undefended. What he wouldn't give for some reinforcements-
He saw them too late and he felt his stomach sink like a stone. Oh god. Some thoughts just tempted fate. And they were already talking to Eleri! Eliza was in the lead! It was official. He was a dead man.
He ran over to them and coughed a little to get their attention. "Sergeant Mortymer. Corporal Beaumont. Stand down, we've got reinforcements." He looked over to Eliza, who was looking unfortunately shattered from her short run, and Tori, who looked worryingly dangerous with all those weapons, and gulped a little awkwardly.
"Lance Constables Eliza Flowers and Victoria Kane." He introduced with a wave of his hand, hoping that would suffice. "They're our..." He noticed that Tori had beaten him to it, and just managed a little "...yeah. We've got this. Get back to the Yard." He said it like an order, so that there could be no accusation of it being an act of kindness. He didn't want Hadrian to feel special treatment that might make him feel worse.
It also left no question that Wright wasn't going with them. There was no way he was handing over his crime scene to two rookies...

Eliza had a deer in the headlights look as Eleri told them off, but it wasn't long before, thanks to Tori's reminder, she remembered that she was police as well.
Fortunately, Tori had to do the talking, because Eliza's little run had tired her out, and while she puffed and panted breath back in to her, she got more and more afraid of the stern woman's stare. Suddenly, this hadn't seemed like such a good idea. And then Captain Wright came over just as she got her breath back enough to stand up without leaning on her own knees.
She felt a lot better when he validated their presence, and even made it sound like he'd requested them to be there. That was good! She'd been right! They weren't in trouble after all.
"Like, hiya!" She said with a wave to Eleri and Hadrian as Wright introduced them before a small disused part of her brain told her that this was probably not an appropriate greeting for officers of a higher rank, and she quietened down and managed a meek; "I-I mean, like, hello, ma'am." Which wasn't much better, and mostly copying Tori's term of address, but it was an improvement at least.

((Mwaha, ninja-posters )) Eleri rubbed Hadrian's shoulder reassuringly as she felt him lift his head up, and then smiled, visably relieved as Wright reappeared. "Yes, sir." She said gratefully. The first thing she was going to do when she got back was send Hadrian to the shower and, of course, make some tea. She gave Wright a look that managed to say 'thank you' and 'I'm going to kill you properly this time' at the same time. She looked a little concerend that the captain wasn't coming with them, but she understood that he couldn't leave the scene unattended. She eyed both the newcomers. At least the second girl looked like she had some sense about her, even if she was too heavily armed for Eleri's liking. The first one, well... that was something she didn't need to think about right now. She lifted her arm off Hadrian, picked up her crutches and stood up. She limped over to stand next to Wright and told him quietly "Be careful. And if you need any more help, call us. OK?" She gave him another look that let him know she meant it, and then gestured to Hadrian. "Come on, let's get you cleaned up." She said gently. Then she cursed the fact that they'd walked down, considered asking to borrow Eliza's car and then spotted it. No, she'd walk.

Hadrian stared at Wright briefly, a stubborn look beginning to grow on his face, he felt like he had to stay, but at the same time, his shoulders slumped and he nodded, "Yes sir."
He was in no fit state.
He got to his feet and looked to the girls, offering them a weak smile, "Nice to meet you, wish it were under better circumstances," he rasped before following after Eleri, hovering a little bit, keeping his attention focused on her and preparing to catch her should she stumble, anything to prevent himself from going back to the basement.

Tori cringed mentally at Eliza's frankly daft greeting and narrowly avoided giving in to the urge to dig her in the ribs. Damn, she really shouldn't have let her have that coke. She noted that the captain looked nervous, like he was expecting the older woman to start yelling at him too. Tori noted that with interest.
She nodded her head at the mention of her own name and tried not to blush as the older woman, who she assumed was Sergeant Mortymer, looked her and Eliza over. She offered the younger man, Corporal Beaumont, a small, meek smile as he passed. "You too."
As the two officers walked away, she turned her attention back to captain Wright, trying not to look guilty. "I'm sorry for gatecrashing, sir, but there were such a lot of injured people and we thought maybe we could help. And there wasn't anything going on in the office and it's not like we could do anything from there and..." she paused, horribly aware that she'd started babbling.
"Sorry, sir." she said, looking at the ground, embarrased.

Wright paused with the shock that came from one of his own officers actually respecting him. That wouldn't last, once Eleri had got her claws in to them. He looked over them, and decided. They'd do.
"Good work." He said, feeling that this wasn't the time to be harsh to anybody. Especially not those two. Eliza would probably cry for a start. That was a bucket of problems he didn't need.
"You two, guard duty." Wright ordered simply, going to head back in to the building. "That means you stand around and look like coppers." He added for the benefit of Eliza who was bound to ask a stupid question. The thing was, to Wright's Edgehaven trained eyes, Eliza was the threat. Tori was heavily armed, you could see the danger, but Eliza? Dressed like she was, standing there unarmed, it was bound to ring alarm bells. Nobody was really that harmless in Edgehaven right? A werewolf? Vampire, maybe? Maybe even some kind of demon?
He knew other Edgehaven residents would feel the same. They didn't need to know she was really that pathetic...

Eliza had turned slightly green at the sight of the blood splattered Hadrian, and stood swaying uneasily. Once Hadrian had gone, Eliza began to brighten a little again, and was proud of herself for not throwing up.
"Like, yessir!" She answered, with an awkward but optimistic salute.
She watched Wright go and giggled with a big smile to Tori. "Guard duty! It's like, we're like, real police officers!" She grinned, before frowning as if remembering something difficult. "Wait, like, we are, like, real police officers, but like, real real ones!" She beamed, apparently satisfied that this made sense.

Tori lifted her head and beamed. "Yes, sir!" She said enthusiastically, snapping a quick salute for good measure. She'd probably overdone it, but what the hell. She felt better about it when she noticed that Eliza had done the same thing.
She turned to Eliza after Wright had gone. "Uh... yeah, I kinda figured that one," she said, unable to resist a smile. She paused and looked at Eliza properly. "You... left your nightstick in the car, didn't you?" She asked slowly. Unlike Wright, she didn't see what was so beneficial about Eliza being unarmed.

Eleri limped back to the station in an uncomfortable silence. Once or twice, she turned her head to look at Hadrian as though she was going to say something, paused, and then turned away. What else could you say to someone in that situation? Questions like 'how are you feeling' just seemed arbitrary and insensitive.
As they approached the Yard, she turned to Hadrian and motioned the door with one crutch. "Could you?" She asked. She'd never been more glad to walk in to the familiar mess and mayhem of the police HQ than she was right now.
Once inside, she dropped one crutch on her desk and, still using the other for support, made her way to the filing cabinet that stood in the corner. Unlocking it, she leant down, opened the bottom drawer and pulled out a small bottle of whiskey. She'd kept it mainly for situations like these, being a firm believer that a good stiff drink was, in small doses, a good treatment for shock. If nothing else, it made you forget for just a while. As for why it was in the filing cabinet, well, where else did you put things you didn't want captain Wright to see?
((Apologies for slight god-modding >.>))

Eliza grinned at Tori agreeing with her. See, she totally knew she was right! Real police officers! It was actually kind of exciting!
She heard the reminder and checked over herself for the missing nightstick. She gave an embarrased smile. "Like, oh yeah. I couldn't like, clip it on my belt. Besides, it's like heeeeeavy!" She whined slightly playfully, knowing she'd messed up a little. She was a guard with nothing to guard with.
"So like, did you see the way the captain and that sergeant were looking at, like, each other?" She asked with what you could be sure she thought was a secretive smile but was actually blindingly obvious. "He's kinda, like, cute, in that beat-up Daniel Craig way..." She went on to speculate, clearly enjoying herself.

Tori sighed and nodded. "I thought so. Anything happens, you can use mine. I'm good with my babys." She said, patting one of her guns happily. The she groaned. Great, apart from the overwhelming girlyness, Eliza was one of those people that turns everything in to an episode of 90210 or something.
"What, the one that was shouting at us?" Tori thought about it. "I dunno, it kinda sounded like she's his mother or something.... I guess he is kinda cute though. In an old-guy way." She grinned. "That other guy though, the corporal, he's hot as hell. Or I guess he would be if he wasn't covered in blood and stuff. And wasn't, y'know, traumatized."
Oddly, Tori was enjoying herself too, which was odd, because she didn't usually enjoy speculating about other people's relationships. Something about Eliza's enthusiasm was contagious, she decided.
