Wright shifted in his seat a little, and attempted his best serious cough. "Yes, well, the papers, I mean, I would, you know I would, but it's just so hard to get them interested in us..." He explained, wondering if Eleri had overheard any of the previous twenty five times that week he'd told the newspapers he was far too busy for an interview while sat at his desk doing nothing.
"Oh, alright, alright! I guess we do need more people!" Wright sighed. "But no more Elizas! I can only hand one!" He demanded, deciding it best to lay down the rules. After all, one Flowers was enough, even if she was the cure for paperwork wrapped in red hair and smelling of perfume.
"And NO vampires!" He added.

Eleri frowned at the Captain over her tea. She had somehow managed to miss every phonecall from the Gazette and had no idea that they were dying to speak to them.
"Well I'm sure if you... no, I'm sure if I phone them and explain, they can at least give us a quick interview or something. This is important!"
She sipped her tea again. "You don't get to complain about her. You hired her. Without consulting anyone, I might add." Her eyes narrowed into what was the unmistakable beginnings of a Look.
"And what," she asked calmly, setting her mug down and folding her arms, "is so bad about hiring vampires?"

Smelling danger, Hadrian thought fast, "Given how Lemartes is still iffy with the power-plays and we've got fresh blood coming in from the majority of the country with unknown loyalties, not to mention Dawn now up and running around.... We can't be certain if they would be one-hundred percent into doing the job right. The last thing Edgehaven needs is crooked cops," he offered the older woman thoughtfully. "The same could be said of Lycans," and he tried very hard to keep the dislike from his voice as he spoke of them, "I'm not sure how much of a pack mentality they have given how I've only spoken with a few and the subject was quite tactfully avoided, but it could be anything from a natural wolf-like hierarchy or something closer to a Vampyric community where the eldest's word is law.
"Either way, we'd have to be certain about each and every person we hire. Background checks through the wall."
The difficulty with that would most likely be the simple problem of people rarely using their REAL names in this town. Still. He knew some people who could probably help, and he knew a few systems he could crack should all else fail.

"Yeah, exactly." Wright nodded in response to Hadrian's logical points about vampires. Points that Wright certainly hadn't thought of and had had no bearing whatsoever on his decision. "And they're all blood sucking evil scum who deserve to be rounded up and staked." He added, because while Wright generally hated everybody and everything, there was nothing he hated more than vampires.
"Werewolves are probably okay. They tend to be loners. Dhampires are fine. Heck, I'd even take some demons over a vampire." He explained.
"And well, you know how these journalists are. I wouldn't want you to waste your time phoning them. I'll do it. You know, take one for the team and all that." Wright offered, which of course should have set off warning bells...

Eleri listened to Hadrians's logic patiently, nodding occasionally but not taking her eyes off Wright. "I see..." she said, picking up her tea again and letting her eyes un-narrow. The gesture said 'I'll let it go, for now.'
They narrowed again almost instantly. "No no, you're busy. Phoning journalists isn't the sort of thing the captain does. I'm sure there's a phone number in the book. Of course, it would be better to get hold of a reporter directly, but there we are. Of course, I could go and ask Eliza to do it, it seems like the sort of thing she ought to be doing..."

Wright scowled at Eleri with a look that could only be gruding respect. She'd out-manouvered him here and she knew it. Now he had two choices. Either Eleri had to phone the journalists, or Flowers.
"Okay, okay, you win..." Wright sighed, defeated. "But they'll be way too busy! You're wasting your time!" He added in the vain hope that Eleri might actually believe that.
He couldn't shake the feeling that it wouldn't work, though.

Eleri nodded smugly. "We'll see. Hadrian, can you see if you can dig up a phone number for me please? I'l have a flick through my phonebook, but I don't think I've got anything."

Hadrian's fingers flew across his keyboard, "Phone, address and e-mail," he declared, spinning in his wheely chair in order to pull the freshly printed sheet of paper up and hand it to the red haired woman. He still couldn't believe the Captain actually had the balls to foul-mouth Vampires in front of her, but he did cover his ass almost immediately by proclaiming Dhamphire's 'okay' status.
"Shall I head out and finish the girls' training? I figure that if Flowers isn't too great in physical fitness, I can still teach her where to hit and use her opponent's weight against them. She's got a brain in there, even if it is fluffy and pink," he added with a small frown is distaste. "Besides, Kane is a bit overly fond of guns. If I can't kerb her of that by showing her my other cool toys, then I'll equip her with rubber bullets or rock-salt rounds instead of solid slug or buckshot. I'd just rather not waste the money ordering something unnessicary yet," he added, wrinkling his nose. Rich his mother may have been, but even he felt guilty over the expense the EHPD Yard was to build. An expense he was eager to start proving was well and truly worth it.
