Eliza set off after Tori in what she approximated as a jog, which mostly amounted to much flailing of arms and legs in a terrible attempt to keep up. Unfortunately, Eliza being one of the slowest people on the planet meant that she almost immediately fell behind. It wasn't long after that she started missing beeps, and Tori was at least a lap ahead of her. This cheered her up for a moment, as she thought she might have caught Tori up, before she realised what was happening.
She had to stop after only a few runs, defeated again by her incredibly low fitness level where she sat hunched, panting, and generally feeling very much like a mess. She was sure if she kept sweating like this her make-up would run, but at least had the intelligence not to complain about it in case Eleri banned her from wearing any.
Instead she just watched Tori, expecting her to be equally tired, and actually looked shocked as Tori carried on efficently.

(Does anyone mind if we skip ahead a bit to the end of the training session soon? Not being particularly athletic, I'ma run out of ideas soon xD)
Eleri, finishing her tea, watched as the two recruits up and down the yard. While Tori was doing fairly well, which Eleri had expected, Eliza had stopped after a few laps and looked as though she had just attempted to run the London Marathon in about 10 minutes. She sighed and strode towards the building, instructing Eliza to get her breath back and Tori to keep going as long as she could.
She slipped in through the door and made her way to the main office, throwing her empty cardboard cup in a bin on her way. If Eliza didn't drink some water soon, it looked as though she might pass out.
As she entered the office, she shot Wright a Look. "Morning both," she greeted Hadrian and Myra. "Thanks for the tea, you're a life-saver." she added, smiling at the younger woman.
She made her way across to the fridge, crouched and poked around for a moment, and then rose, holding two bottles of water.
"You know," she said conversationally, "I get the impression that Eliza doesn't run very much."

Tori jogged easily up and down the yard, hardly feeling the strain to begin with. She was surprised that Eliza managed to keep up for even a moment, and it wasn't long before she was passing her in the other direction. She slowed down a little when Eliza stopped altogether, although she soon sped up again when it became obvious that the other girl was generally ok.
As soon as Eleri disappeared, she stopped, flicked off the cd player and sat next to the panting Eliza. "You alright?" She asked, panting slightly. "For someone so skinny, you can't do a whole lot of exercise. Do you just, like, not eat or something?"

Eliza looked at Tori like she was completely insane. Why would she exercise? It'd make her all sweaty and gross, and there was definitely much better things to do! She didn't understand exercise. She was perfectly happy being as unfit as she was. As long as nobody made her run, why did it matter? Besides, she liked her heels and they weren't good for running anyway.
"Like, of course I do, duh!" She answered regardless, still a little short of breath. "I like, had a salad only yesterday! And like, three whole chewits on the way to work today!"

Tori nodded. "Yeah, I figured. I have nooo idea how you can do that - I mean, I like a salad, but I can't go out in the morning until I've had my bowl of Lucky Charms." She nodded towards the building.
"Besides, I don't think you'll be able to get away with not running. If last night was anything to go by, these guys spend a whole lot of their day running around."
She paused. "That was seriously scary though. I mean, vampires! Actual, proper vampires... my mom had kittens when I told her!"

Hadrian cringed a little, "Its not the paperwork that has me worried, Captain," he admitted. The curly haired officer scratched at his chin, desperately wondering how he was going to explain his misgivings about this. "What may seem like perfectly sane and completely one-hundred percent necessary actions and preventative measures to us - is going to cause a few aneurysms back in head office. We'll be having inspections and expected to measure up to a Code of Conduct that just doesn't exist in this town." He winced a little in pity and sympathy then. "Then there's the problem of Officer Transfers," he pointed out. "Bad enough we somehow have to convince these people that the things that go bump in the night exist, but we've got to train them to face against them. The more the Edgehaven PD goes on the up, the more Trainees we're going to receive from other parts of the country. Vampires and Weres are everywhere, if Head Office have any sense, then we're going to be looking at.... at least one officer from every precinct in the country coming here for remedial training to identify and - " At this point Eleri came in with a very frightening aura of complete calm (before the storm) and shot the Captain a Look.
Hadrian's mouth shut with an abrupt clack as he caught the scent of disapproval and what could very well be frustration from the woman. What had happened now?
He winced a little at her deliberately innocent commentary, searching for something at least half way nice to say. Being snarky and sarcastic with everyone else was one thing, they took it and dished it back and did it all with a grin on their faces. But Flowers was the type to cry - like his... like She used to - and he just didn't have the slightest idea of how to handle crying girls and thus tried to avoid it more than he did Demons.
"Given how she was supposed to be a Desk Jockey...." He shook his head and slumped against the desk again, "Crap."

Eleri nodded. "Well there is that, I guess. Still, she does tend to move like a newborn deer on gravel." She glanced in the direction she had come. "Back to it I suppose." She shot Wright another look that clearly said 'you're going to pay for this' and strode back out of the office and towards the door.
She'd caught the end of Hadrian's explanation as she came in, and it didn't sound good. It was one thing to be training a girl from Bellepheron, who was at least semi-prepared, if a bit ditzy, and.. well, Tori, but if they had a sudden influx of rookies from all over the UK... she dreaded to think.
She remembered what it had been like for her as a young officer, brand new to the Force. The worst she'd had to deal with was the occasional violent drunk. She couldn't imagine what it would be like for a new officer who'd never even heard of Edgehaven to be suddenly find themselves taking down feral vampires.
Well those two managed it... she thought. It had been a baptism by fire, sure, but was that such a bad thing? She shook the thought out of her head - she didn't want to think about that.
As she re-entered the yard, she threw a bottle of water to Tori and Eliza.
"Right then, have a drink and then on your feet. I'm not done with you yet." She told them.
(I'ma skip to the end of the training session in my next post I think. I'll wait incase Eliza posts though.)

Wright listened to Hadrian's points, and truth be told, it had been a concern to him as well. He'd been able to keep the EHPD under the radar while it had been three mostly drunk officers working out of a house on the outskirts, but now people were beginning to notice.
It wasn't Head Office that concerned him. While the common people didn't know about vampires and werewolves, once you went high up enough the command chain they did. But all it took was some eager pen pusher somewhere to notice the EHPD needed more men to send them down, without ever checking with their superiors. If the commands didn't go high enough, no block would ever be in place.
Still, he was their captain and he wasn't about to let them be too concerned by this. He was sure he'd think of something before the inevitable happened, and if he couldn't, well, they were the EHPD. They practically were the experts in dealing with unplanned eventualities. He wondered if he should get that printed on business cards.
"Don't worry about it. Dodging paperwork is my speciality." Maybe that one on business cards as well? ""We can stop them coming down here easily enough. At least until we're up and running enough that we don't need them to come down here anyway."

"Your MUM had KITTENS!?" Eliza exclaimed, her eyes wide with shock and awe. "D-don't you think you should take her to the doctors? Or, um, maybe the vet? I'm not sure! Wow. That's, um, that's a tricky one!" She flailed for a moment, in confusion and terror.
It was only after a look from Tori that she realised she hadn't quite meant that literally. "Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!" She exclaimed. "Right! I get it!" She nodded, smiling, without a clue in the world as to what Tori had meant or what there was to 'get'.
When Eleri entered again, Eliza grinned at the sight of the water, yelped when she threw it, jumped out of the way and watched as the bottle skitted to the floor. Catching was also not a talent of Eliza's. She picked it up however, and drank it gratefully, although she wished it was coca-cola, since she hadn't had sugar for at least an hour now. "Awwww.....mooooore?" She whined, wishing they could go back in now.
((Yes, skipping to the end is fine with me. Sorry for the uber delay!))

Hadrian hummed looking thoughtful and somewhat anxious at the same time. "It wouldn't be so bad if they already knew about Edgehaven, if we had more people to hand we wouldn't have to worry so much about keeping an eye on over-eager and over-their-heads Rookies while doing our jobs."
He looked over at the Captain, recalling some of the info he'd managed to find while researching the previous Edgehaven P.D. for inspiration on effective equipment, proceedures and what would actually be needed in a police station. Wright had signed up during a Recruitment Drive... Perhaps...
"Sir, maybe we should think about holding a Recruitment Drive here in Edgehaven? We would get people already with some degree of competency who'd be familiar with names and locations around the City," he suggested a little warily. Those were the pros, the cons were they couldn't exactly regulate who or what would show up on their doorsteps, and a Recruitment Drive would be fairly easy to attack if someone wanted to nip them in the bud - so to speak. He'd heard the whispers the last time he'd gone to the Broken Bottle, the Barman warning him that the sudden almost meteoric rise from the ashes the EHPD had gone through was making a few people twitchy and that was never a good thing in Edgehaven.
Twitchy usually meant violent.

Eleri nodded. "Yes, more. What we've done so far is just the warm-up. Now..."
Eleri continued her training for quite a while longer, pushing the two new recruits to their limits (although Tori's limits took considerably longer to reach than Eliza's).
As the two finished their final exercise, Eleri looked at her watch. "I think that's enough. Go change and cool down, then report to the main office. If you want a shower, go ahead. They're upstairs."
Satisfied with her morning's work, she strolled back in to the office.
Tori glanced at Eliza. "I don't know about you, but I definitely need a shower. Man, she's tough!" Panting slightly, she headed inside.
Once back in the office, Eleri flicked the switch on the kettle. "Done," she said simply, making herself a cup of tea and flopping down at her desk. "So, we still discussing head office? Any ideas yet?"

"Constable Beaumont wants to HIRE people." Wright whined as Eleri asked how things were. "He wants a recruitment drive! They'll be posters! And....flyers!" He shuddered with fear at the very idea. Apparently Wright had some kind of history with posters.
"And besides, I just recruited two people! That's two! One of them's even kinda compitant!" He protested, but he already knew he was fighting a losing battle. They did need men, even if the men weren't men and actually hell beasts.
"Ohhh, okay, I'll think about it!" Wright insisted, pre-empting a solid 'Look' defence in case Eleri turned her gaze on him.

"Shower....would...be....good...." Eliza panted behind Tori, crawling pathetically along the floor, and through the office as they discussed recruitment.
She was probably quite a good counter argument at that point to Wright's idea of recruitment, since she could barely stand, but she was determined to make the showers so that she could get back in to her 'cute' policewoman outfit. Eliza hated looking sweaty or worn down.

Hadrian opened his mouth to comment on Wright's snark but the sight of Eliza actually crawling across the floor made the words die on his tongue and he couldn't stop himself from watching her progress towards the showers on the second floor. It was....
"She can't be that bad..." he trailed off in horror once she was not only out of eye-sight but out of earshot. He then rounded on the Captain, "This is what I mean. If we start recruiting from Edgehaven, we'll get people who can at least run a block without having to stop for breath and who know their way around the Supernatural. No offence, but the last three people we got, didn't know where to start and only Myra had enough time to learn properly before she got thrown into the deep end. No offence," he added to his, well, he guessed that in terms of seniority she was his partner in the same way that Wright and Eleri were partners.
"You won't have to worry about posters or flyers," he added with a roll of his eyes. He would just ask his mother and they'd be on almost every telegraph pole from Edgehaven to Bellepherone.

Eleri rounded on Hadrian in mock-anger. "Corporal Beaumont, how dare you want to hire new people for an understaffed police station!" She sighed and shook her head.
"Look, I'm not keen on the idea either," she glanced meaningfully at the stairs Eliza and Tori had just taken, "but like it or not, we need more people. And Hadrian's right, the more people we get that already know Edgehaven, the better. If you think I'm wasting my time trying to convince a load of rookies from London that vampires a) exist, b) aren't all likely to eat you and c) don't sparkle, you have another thing coming."
She sipped her tea. "You know, it might not hurt to see if you can get the paper involved. I mean, posters and flyers, yes, but we'll reach a lot more people if we can get the paper to run an advert for us."
